Ode: retired Brooks Launch
by rchackman
Do not take this seriously. This is one big joke. Actually, go with whatever floats your boat.
a tribute poem to my recently retired running shoes “Day after Day”
Day after day
just running away
through rain and sunshine
my legs feeling fine, just fine fine
still and all smiling for miles, many miles
through to the other side of runners’ highs and trials
so it is a heartfelt thanks to you I say, running day after day

I will leave you with one thought (especially if you grew up in the 90’s). Is it the man? or…
Great poem. What do you do with your retired shoes? I still keep mine:(
I usually donate them to Goodwill unless they are really beat up.
ah, brought tears to my eyes 🙂
mixed emotions over here…Had some great times with my Brooks but sad to see em go ! Will I ever find another great running companion ?!?!
i know it can be hard letting go of our old and trusted, but they have done you proud! it may take time, but you will find new friends to be with you every step of the way 🙂
I like the pictures!
After the incredible Men’s 4 x 100 relay in Beijing, a reported asked Cullen Jones if his improvements were due to his new super-fast swimsuit. He responded, “The suit doesn’t get up at 5:30 in the morning, like I do.”
LOL !!
I’m going to retire my current running shoes soon. It’s amazing how attached to them I feel. They got me through my first two half-marathons. Think I’ll keep them forever 🙂 Loved your pix!
Thanks. Agreed, it was hard to say goodbye to these ! but the time has come for my Brooks Launch 😦
I know exactly how you feel…my shoes are my buddies…I give the old pairs away to charities, except for the pair I was wearing when I completed the run across the United States…they are sitting on a shelf here in my office…so I can look up and see them.
Be encouraged!
Yes, those shoes deserve to stick around. And to think…they stick around after all you have put them through ;). They certainly earned a cushy spot on the shelf !
Did you wear those shoes for your whole run across the US ?
That is soo funny! Love the pics though – very inspiring!
thanks! 🙂
enjoyed your blog!
hahaha! What are going to do now?!?! Switching models? Brands?
I’m looking for the replacement. I still have my Mizunos that I am not too fond of but I am in the market for running shoes ! Not quite sure yet what I am looking for. Maybe another style of Brooks
By the end of this post, I was actually cheering!! Way to go! And yes, completely agree: must respect the shoes 🙂
Respect the Shoes: because all runners need support at one point or another!
I love Brooks: 2 pairs of Ravenna 2 and a pair of T6 but none of them ready to retire just yet 😉
I have been wanting to try a pair of brooks, but I am not sure if I can break away from my Saucony ones! I have been wearing this brand of shoes for over 3 years now. Great post and pictures.

Loved the pictures. And I know the loss of a partner is difficult, but don’t worry, you will find another suitable pairing and be in love all over again some day soon.
